What is the EU AI Act?

The EU AI Act (Regulation 2024/1689) is the world's first comprehensive legal framework governing artificial intelligence. It applies to any organisation regardless of where it is based that places AI systems on the EU market or whose AI systems affect people in the EU. This means UK, US, and global companies are all in scope if they operate in or sell to the European market.
